Neither had I… until today.

Like many, my first reaction was to look for a pseudo weapon to attack it and ultimately put it out of my misery. As if that little fly had started his day with the intent of ruining mine!

Luckily for him (and me), I stopped myself. I took a breath. I let him land. And after a short moment I saw unseen beauty in one of God’s tiny creations. The incredible colors and millions of microscopic hairs were suddenly inspiring. His miniature questioning eyes seemed to somehow open my own.

In that moment I realized how much potential and opportunity can be missed simply by not looking for it. It greets us and seeks us out every day, if we only take a moment to look for the good in others – whether they are colleagues or just an innocent house fly.

No matter how small or seemingly inconsequential, we all have purpose – and I see beauty in purpose.

With this nugget of inspiration delivered by Mr. Fly, I’m claiming 2016 as my year of Wow. My year of wonder.

My year of investing the extra minute to intentionally see the beauty in every situation, project, and person who’s path crosses my own.

I will remember to not forget that my actions and reactions are a choice with predictable outcomes. To a certain extent, we control our life experiences with these choices.

Regardless of what project I’m working on this year, or with whom, I choose to be grateful, happy, and more aware of the potential that surrounds me. As the fly has taught me, when we do this – that hidden potential becomes opportunity. And that is a beautiful thing.

Please share your mantra for 2016, along with any lessons learned through interactions with insects, puppies, unicorns, or any other wondrous woodland creature!
